Master - Graduation
When you fulfil all of the following requirements, you can apply for graduation from the master’s programme by filling in the necessary form.
- Successful completion of all compulsory and compulsory elective courses of the relevant curriculum
- Submission of the positively assessed master’s thesis
- Successful completion of the public defence
If you would like to apply for graduation, please select the relevant application form of your degree programme from the list in the download center and e-mail the completed form to the StudiesServiceCenter (ssc.wiwi@univie.ac.at).
Average Grade
The estimated average grade of your studies will be printed on the Diploma Supplement but not on the Abschlusszeugnis. It is based on the ECTS completed in your program inclusive the master's thesis and final oral exam (defence).
Graduation ceremony
Graduations are fittingly celebrated at the University of Vienna. For this purpose, the Conference and Event Management service unit of the University of Vienna organises undergraduate ceremonies and graduation ceremonies for graduates of master’s and PhD/doctoral programmes.

Applying for graduation
Your degree and degree documents will be issued automatically after the positive evaluation of your Master's degree examination (exeption: Statistics, see below). Therefore an application for the exam is needed upfront. You can find the guideline HERE.

Master (International) Business Administration
As soon as the evaluation of your Master's degree examination (Defensio) has been received by the SSC, your application for graduation is automatically sent to the back office for the issuing of the graduation documents. The SSC will inform you immediately by e-mail as soon as the degree documents have been issued. The processing time is max. 4 weeks from the date of submission of the assessment for the Master's examination at the SSC.
Magister Statistics
The Magister programme in Statistics does not include a final examination. After a positive evaluation of your master's thesis and completion of all modules provided for in the programme, you can apply for graduation at the SSC.
To apply for graduation, please select the appropriate application form for your degree programme from the download centre. For purely technical reasons upload it via Servicedesk HERE under "Registration for master's examination".
Fill-in assistance for Servicedesk application:
- Study program: please choose "Magister Statistik"
- Date of exam: please state your last exam date
- Attachments: it is solely obligatory to upload the 'application for graduation'. The comment about the document registration for master's examination is irrelevant and should be disregarded.
After your graduation documents have been issued, the StudiesServiceCenter will inform you via e-mail to your u:account.
Master Economics / Applied Economics / Research Master in Economics & Finance
As soon as the evaluation of your Master's degree examination (Defensio) has been received by the SSC, your application for graduation is automatically sent to the back office for the issuing of the graduation documents.
