PhD - Graduation

Final oral examination (defence)

If the doctoral thesis has been positively assessed and all the achievements prescribed in the curriculum have been positively completed, the doctoral candidate can register for the final oral examination.

The public defence consists of a presentation of the central findings followed by a general discussion about the research subject with the examination committee. Approximately 40 minutes are allotted for the presentation. The examination date should be coordinated in consultation with the directorate of studies and the (external) examiners. The registration form for the defence has to be submitted to the StudiesServiceCenter two weeks before the scheduled date.

Graduation documents

The graduation documents are issued by the StudiesServiceCenter after successful defence and signed by the directorate of studies. As soon as the documents are ready for collection, you will be notified by the SSC. When collecting them, please present the confirmation of participation for the Statistics Austria survey (https://www.statistik.at/ustat2/).
