[English version below]

Annals of Statistics”, Stochastic Processes and their Applications” und Annals of the Institute of Statistical Mathematics” tätig.

April 2020.

Welcome to our Faculty, Professor Jirak!

We are happy to welcome Univ.-Prof. DI Dr. techn. Johannes Moritz Jirak as professor for Statistics and Stochastic Optimization starting with April 1 2020 to our faculty. He is associated with the Department for Statistics and Operations Research.

Professor Jirak’s research interests lie in Mathematical Statistics (High-Dimensional Time Series, Non-Parametric Statistics, Change-Point Analysis, Functional Data, High-Frequency Analysis for Stochastic Processes) and Probability Theory (Asymptotic Expansions, Extreme-Value Theory).

Moritz Jirak has been Professor (W3) at the Technical University of Braunschweig since 2016. Before his professorship in Braunschweig, Jirak was Visiting Scholar at the University of Chicago, Postdoctoral Fellow at Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin and worked at the Austrian Financial Market Authority and the Graz University of Technology. He studied Mathematics at Graz University of Technology, completed master's studies in Mathematics at the Université de Provence Aix-Marseille and in Financial and Insurance Mathematics at Graz University of Technology, where he also completed his PhD in Mathematics with a dissertation on "Extreme Inference" supervised by István Berkes. In 2012 he was awarded the "Award of the Austrian Statistical Society for the best doctoral thesis".

Professor Jirak serves as referee for journals such as "Annals of Statistics", "Stochastic Processes and their Applications" und "Annals of the Institute of Statistical Mathematics". Moreover, he gave talks at numerous international conferences. Next to research and teaching, professor Jirak supervises master’s and PhD students. In summer term 2020 Moritz Jirak will teach the course Exercises in Probability (STEOP) – presumably online.

It is a particular challenge to start this new position under the current circumstances. We wish professor Jirak despite the difficult conditions a good start at our faculty!
