2024 - Volker Wieland

Prof. Volker Wieland, Ph.D. holds the Endowed Chair of Monetary Economics at the Institute for Monetary and Financial Stability since March 2012. Since June 2012, he serves as Managing Director of the IMFS. Previously, he was Professor of Monetary Theory and Policy at Goethe University Frankfurt (2000-2012) and a Founding Professor of the IMFS. From 2003 until 2009 Wieland was Director of the Center for Financial Studies.

Wieland is a Research Fellow at the Center for Economic Policy Research (CEPR) in London, a member of  the Kronberger Kreis, that is the Scientific Council of the Market Economy Foundation, as well as a member of the Scientific Advisory Council of the German Ministry of Finance. Since March 2023, he has been co-chairman of the Council for the Future of the Hessian Economy. From March 1, 2013, until April 30, 2022, he was a member of the German Council of Economic Experts and from May 2021 until April 2022 a member of the Advisory Board of the Stability Council (Stabilitätsrat).

In 2019, he received the prize of the Monetary Workshop for his research in monetary economics. In 2017, he was awarded the “Public Service Fellowship” by the foundation of Alfons and Gertrud Kassel in recognition of his services in promoting the connection between science on the one hand and politics and society. For the academic year of 2008/09, Wieland was awarded the Wim Duisenberg Research Fellowship by the European Central Bank.
